MSNBC Apologizes for Cinco de Mayo Segment

MSNBC apologized Tuesday for what was intended to be a humorous Cinco de Mayo segment a day earlier that showed a staffer wearing a sombrero, shaking maracas and taking a swig from a bottle of tequila.

The network said the segment on its Way Too Early show wasn't intended to be disrespectful.

Hugo Balta, president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, slammed the segment and the fact that it was done by a news organization. He told AP that it feeds, quote, "the ignorant misconceptions of a rich and proud people who unfortunately are too often portrayed as caricatures to be scoffed at."
