Portland OR Radio: Entercom Sez Contest Data Breached

Entercom, the owner of eight radio stations in the Portland area, had data containing personal information from listeners and staff stolen from a car in late February, according to KOIN-TV6.

As many as 13,000 people are affected.

Officials with Entercom alerted Portland police after the theft happened on February 28.

On that date, they said in a statement on their website, data cartridges with a backup of file server data were inside a backpack that was stolen from an employee’s car. The cartridges, they said, require special hardware and software to read.

An internal investigation found that some of the files had personal information, including Social Security numbers, payment card information and bank account information, from station contestants, clients, vendors and staff.

In Portland, Entercom operates KFXX, KGON, KNRK, KNRK-HD, KRSK, KWJJ, KYCH and KMTT-AM.

Officials with Entercom in Portland identified 12,500 people and sent notice about this data breach, but they have not been able to reach about 500 people.
