Boston Radio: Howie Carr Says He Got A Much Better Deal

Howie Carr
Longtime talk personality and Boston Herald columnist Howie Carr launched his new four hour show on WMEX 1510 AM Monday afternoon.

The change means the end to a long running dispute with his previous employer, Entercom, and the beginning of a new period of control over his personal radio brand.

"Everything at WRKO was antiquated including the management's theories of radio. I don't think companies like Entercom will be around long term," Carr told masslive.com.

Carr's syndicated program, managed by Kurt Carberry of WCRN 830 AM in nearby Worcester, will still be heard on his original network of affiliates across New England except for WRKO. The plan, Carr said, is to take the show national in the near future.

"I got a much better deal with WMEX than I did with WRKO. It wasn't even close," said Carr, citing a recently refurbished studio in Needham as part of the reason for jumping ship.
