NC Radio: Arrest Made In Theft At WCIS

Copper Theft Suspect
A suspect has been charged with several felonies in regards to the vandalism of WCIS 760 AM in Morganton, NC last week (See original posting: Click Here)

The vandalism included the theft of copper wiring that knocked WCIS off-air.

Steve Woody was charged with felony breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, and possession of stolen goods, according to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office. He also was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle in regards to an incident Monday, which lead to his capture.

A Ford F250 truck was reported stolen from property near the radio station on Monday, according to the Burke County Magistrate Office.

Evidence in the back of the truck connected him to the radio station theft, BCSO said. Property damage during that theft came to $50,000, according to the magistrate office.

Investigation is ongoing in the copper theft, BCSO said, and more arrests are pending.

Woody was transported to Burke-Catawba jail and placed under a $15,000 secured bond for the stolen vehicle and $25,000 secured bond for the station-related charges, for a total bond of $40,000 secured, according to the magistrate office.
