Milwaukee Radio: WBWI Rebrands As 'Buzz Country 92.5 FM'

Magnum.Media has announced it has rebranded WBWI 92.5 FM West Bend-Milwaukee, WI to WMBZ “Buzz Country.”

Company President Dave Magnum stated, “We nicknamed a station Buzz several years ago then flipped formats but hung on to buzzcountry.com with hopes of redeploying it someday.  Infusing stationality into this big signal that touches 20 counties was important to us, so we commissioned an artist in Boston to originate the Buzz character.  Another key was to create a clear distinction between the imaging of Buzz Country 92.5 and Continuous Country Q92.1.”

On December 1, 2014 Magnum.Media changed the format of 92.1 FM Racine-Milwaukee from Light Rock to Country as Q92 with the call letters WMKQ-FM.

Both stations are programmed by Mike Sommers and engineered by Del Reynolds.

Magnum is the licensee of 16 radio stations, one Class A TV and two LPTV’s all in Wisconsin.

  1. The new format for 92.5 IS TERRIBLE!!!!! R.I.P. WBWI. The new guy with Bill Mitchell in the morning is so boring, there is no emotion in his voice like Barry Hersch had. The funny morning banter between Bill and Barry is now gone because Barry is gone, The Birthday Club has lost it's catchy Beatles background music, which made having a birthday announced a lot more fun and celebratory sounding. No repeat Tuesday and Thursday also went out the window...the variety of music that is played has turned the radio station into a country KISS FM....just the same songs over and over and over and over again. Nothing new, nothing old....it's so incredibly blah...the station used to have that something different that set it apart from other local country stations, now it is exactly the same and incredibly boring. Magnum.Media is a radio station ruiner.

  2. WBWI 92.5 was a breath of fresh air when it came to REAL country music. WMBZ “Buzz Country.” now plays the same crap country music I had to endure before I found WBWI !!!!!!

Why is it we can't have a descent country music station in this area for more then a few years?

  3. Totally agree! I miss dead or alive! Playing along and trying to guess as well as listening to Bill AND Barry made the dreadful morning commute a lot less dreadful. Now it's just Bill and some monotoned guy reading news and the same music that FM106 plays, no variety. I'd rather listen to silence than this. Why must one always ruin a good thing?

  4. My car radio presets did have this station as #1. I think I'll change it. Just not the same morning commute. Nothing seems to set this new format apart from all the other stations in the area.
