Fresno Radio: The Game Is Over At KJZN-FM

The Game Ends 6am Thursday
KJZN 105.5 FM “Fresno’s Sports Station” will officially change formats at 6 a.m. Thursday, March 5. That’s when 105.5 will become the Valley’s only all classic hip hop radio station, accoridng to the Fresno Bee.

This change comes just weeks after the Federal Communications Commission approved a deal to allow One Putt Broadcasting — owners of the local radio stations Jewel FM, 940 ESPN, KYNO and 790 ESPN2 — to add three more stations to its group: 95.7 The Fox, New Rock 104.1 and The Game 105.5. One Putt Broadcasting took over daily operations of the three FM stations in November, but the deal wasn’t final until the FCC ruling.

One Putt partner John Ostlund says the hip-hop format has been making industry headlines nearly every week over the past nine months. The music is primarily from the ’80s and ’90s and the music library includes approximately 600 classic hits featuring Jay-Z, Tupac, Outkast, Dr. Dre, LL Cool J, Beastie Boys and others. Every hour will include 13-14 songs.

Two weeks after the launch, on-air personalities will be added. Ostlund didn’t say who would be on the air or what the station will be branded.
