Boston Radio: WRKO Dropping Rush Limbaugh

Premiere Radio has lost another affiliate for the Rush Limbaugh Show.  This time is Entercom'es WRKO 680 AM in Boston.  Both sides are saying they were unable to 'reach agreement on renewal'.

A statement from Premiere:  “We were unable to reach agreeable terms for The Rush Limbaugh Show to continue on WRKO. A final broadcast date will be announced in the near future. Rush Limbaugh airs daily in every measured media market in America, and we look forward to announcing exciting news for our Boston listeners soon.”

The company issued a similar statement when Emmis' N/T WIBC 93.1 FM in Indianapolis announced last month that it too was dropping the show. (Click Here for Posting).  Premiere has yet to announce a new Rush affiliate in Indy.

WRKO is apparently balking at the fee to carry Rush, which can be sizeable in addition to airing Premiere investory.

Lumbaugh returned to WRKO in 2012 after a a run on iHeartMedia's WXKS 1200 AM, which was N/T for a time and branded as "Rush Radio'.  at the time Jason Wolfe VP/Programming for Entercom said, "When we were presented with the opportunity to bring Rush back to WRKO, it was a no-brainer."

There has been no comment from Entercom on the departure of Rush from WRKO.

  1. WRKO is either financed by a group that has very little interest in making money or have an agenda that blinds them from reality. To drop the most popular and controversial hosts in America (Limbaugh and Levin) and also replace the morning host, Jeff Kuhner, with a has-been TV anchor (Kim Kerrigan) and a sports loser reading the news, is suicide. Then they put Jeff Kuhner on at noon to compete with Limbaugh, promising Kuhner that he may go national. This may be suicide for Kuhner as well. I think they blunted his career. You can't beat Limbaugh. I have gone to the internet to continue to listen to Limbaugh. And I liked Kuhner! They even replaced Mark Levin with a guy who has helped me understand how to buy and finance a house (Dave Ramsey). Is this stupidity, or is there more going on. Not generally a conspiracist, I find this, nonetheless, very suspicious, especially when an election is coming and these voices are very powerful and influential. The media today is not to be trusted. It's time to wake up America!!
