NBC Nightly News Tops Three Weeks Running


“NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt” has been #1 across the board for all three weeks since Holt was named anchor.

In Holt’s third week, the NBC broadcast expanded its lead over ABC in all categories compared to his first official week and posted significant growth compared to the same week last year.

According to Nielsen Media Research Live+Same Day data for the week of July 6-9, 2015, Nightly topped ABC’s “World News Tonight” by +639,000 total viewers, +178,000 viewers A25-54, and +201,000 viewers A18-49. Nightly has now won 4 of the last 5 weeks, 8 of the last 11 weeks, and 296 of the last 303 weeks among total viewers.

Versus the same week last season, Nightly posted increases in total viewers (+5%, or +384,000), A25-54 viewers (+11%, or +200,000), and A18-49 viewers (+10%, or +130,000).

Weekly Highlights:
  • Nightly averaged 8.136 million total viewers, +639,000 (+9%) more than ABC World News Tonight and +1,453,000 (22%) ahead of CBS Evening News.
  • Nightly averaged 1.959 million A25-54 viewers, leading ABC by +178,000 (+10%) and CBS by +451,000 (+30%).
  • Nightly averaged 1.415 million A18-49 viewers, leading ABC by +201,000 (+17%) and CBS by +330,000 (+30%).
Season-to-Date Highlights:
  • Nightly is averaging 8.784 million total viewers, outperforming ABC by +355,000 (+4%) and CBS by +24% (1.674 million).
  • Nightly is averaging 2.086 million A25-54 viewers this season, leading ABC by +5,000 (+0.2%) and leading CBS by +426,000 (+26%).
  • Nightly is averaging 1.497 million A18-49 viewers this season, leading ABC by +89,000 (+6%) and CBS by +370,000 (+33%).
