Duluth Radio: WEBC Births Sasquatch 106.5 FM

Several days after switching to an all-Christmas format, a WEBC 560 AM / W293CT 106.5 FM has debuted a Real Classic Rock format named after the mythical Bigfoot.

Sasquatch 106.5 debuted at 1 p.m. Tuesday after repeating Bro Smith's 1976 song "Bigfoot" for 23 hours straight.  The FM signal, which is a rebroadcast of WEBC 560 AM, had stunted since last Wednesday with Christmas music.

The station's lineup includes the Bob and Tom Morning Show and Alice Cooper overnights.  Shows hosted by Sammy Hagar and Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue will air on the weekend.

"We have a lot of classic rock fans in the market and we continually heard that listeners wanted another classic rock option," said Townsquare Media Operations Manager David Drew.  "We decided to program a musically focused classic rock station with an irreverent, 'anything goes' style. Our goal is to have fun and let the community have input on the direction of the station."

Townsquare Media bought the 106.5 license from Refuge Media and moved it to Duluth from Moose Lake.

WEBC had previously carried a Sports format.  In debuting its new format, "Sasquatch" takes on longtime Classic Rock outlet KQDS 94.9 FM, owned by Red Rock Radio.
