San Diego Radio: Local Media, KFMB Form JSA

Two of San Diego’s digital and broadcast companies joined forces Monday, announcing a joint-operating agreement that “preserves local ownership and operation of San Diego’s top-rated radio stations,” according to the Union-Tribune.

Local Media San Diego, LLC, and KFMB Stations made the deal public Monday. The agreement makes the entity the largest local radio broadcasting platform in San Diego.

Local Media’s Magic 92.5 and 91X will now be affiliated with KFMB Stations’ JACK 100.7 FM and KFMB 760 AM.

“We’re excited to finalize this agreement with the KFMB Stations’ radio group,” Gregg Wolfson, vice president and general manager at Local Media San Diego, said in a statement. “With both organizations focused exclusively on the San Diego market, this partnership gives us the resources to deliver even more localized programming, events, contests and promotions to our advertising partners and the San Diego community.”

The two entities will go under the name SDLocal, with a market reach of about 1.5 million listeners.

“Local, independent broadcast companies are facing increased pressure from national competitors, but they can’t rival our years of experience serving San Diego,” said Elisabeth Kimmel, owner and president of Midwest Television, licensee of the KFMB Stations. “I’m eager to put our combined experience and assets to work for our customers across the region.”

Meanwhile, KFMB 760-AM has dropped Sean Hannity that it carried for the past 10 years.

The station’s new weekday lineup includes:
  • Armstrong and Getty, 5 – 10 a.m.
  • Mike Slater, 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.
  • KFMB News Hour with Carlo Cecchetto and Lynda Martin, 2 – 3 p.m.
  • Brett Winterble, 3 -6 p.m.
  • Glenn Beck, 6 – 9 p.m.
  • Mark Levin, 9 p.m.-midnight.
“Sean has a show that is highly focused on the political world from a national perspective,” said Dave Sniff, KFMB PD. “While national politics will continue to be covered on KFMB-AM, the perspective will now be from a San Diego point of view. We have adjusted our program schedule to focus on the mission of serving our listeners reliable, accurate information and conversation that reflect the San Diego lifestyle.”
