'Grease Live’ Hits All The Right Notes on Fox

The numbers for Fox’s production of “Grease Live” Sunday night were, to steal from one of the musical’s songs, electrifying.

MediaLife reports the show, which got good reviews, drew a 4.3 adults 18-49 rating from 7 to 10 p.m., according to Nielsen overnights. That rating does not account for time zone differences and includes only timeslot, not actual program, data.

But even so, it’s safe to say the musical was a big hit.

“Grease” bettered NBC’s rating for “The Wiz Live” back in December by 26 percent.
It averaged 12.2 million total viewers, also topping “Wiz,” which averaged 11.5 million.

The show did particularly well among young people, drawing a 3.7 rating in both adults 18-34 and teens 12-17. In fact, in the latter, “Grease” even bettered NBC’s “Sound of Music Live.”

The young stars of “Grease,” such as Julianne Hough and Vanessa Hudgens, appeal to that younger demographic, having appeared in other musicals they know well—Hough starred in a remake of “Footloose” in 2011, while Hudgens rocketed to fame in “High School Musical” a decade ago.
