Cleveland Radio: Grand Jury To Hear JG Spooner Charges

JG Spooner
A former Cleveland sports radio personality's money-laundering case was bound over to a Cuyahoga County grand jury.

Joseph Gerard Spooner, known to listeners of WKRK 92.3 FM The Fan as "J.G." Spooner, did not enter a plea Monday morning during his first court appearance since he was arrested last week.  CBS Radio has since parted company with Spooner.

According to Cleveland.com, Spooner spoke only to answer Parma Municipal Court Judge Kenneth Spanagel's yes-and-no questions and with his attorney.

He remained stoic during the three-minute hearing.

Spooner is accused of stealing more than $7,000 from a fundraiser he started for a woman suffering from cystic fibrosis.

Spooner, 35, funneled every donation made last year from a GoFundMe campaign to help 35-year-old Allyson Thadeus-Zappe fight the disease to his personal bank account, according to police reports.

Thadeus-Zappe, who was Spooner's childhood friend, died in July 2015.
