R.I.P.: Longtime NEPA Newsman, Radio Host L-A Tarone

Longtime journalist, columnist and radio personality Louis “L.A.” Tarone died Sunday after a bout with lung cancer, according to a statement from Newsradio WILK 980 AM / 103.1 FM.

Tarone passed away peacefully, WILK staff wrote in a Facebook post, and had been in good spirits up until the last few days.

He was 58.

Tarone had broadcast weekday evenings starting in 2014, but recently moved up to the 3-to-6 p.m. time slot to replace the departed Steve Corbett.

Tarone had been a reporter and was currently a columnist for the Standard-Speaker in Hazleton and was past news director for WYLN-TV.
