DC Radio: NHL Capitals Return To WJFK-FM

The Washington Capitals have reached an agreement to air broadcasts of their games on WJFK 106.7 FM and Hubbard Radio WFED 1500 AM, president of business operations and chief commercial officer of Monumental Sports & Entertainment Jim Van Stone announced today.

106.7 The Fan will serve as the flagship station for the Capitals, carrying Capitals games plus pre- and postgame shows on one of the region’s strongest radio signals. WFED 1500 AM will serve as the AM destination for the team.

“106.7 The Fan is the true leader in sports programming throughout our region and we are excited to renew our partnership with them and provide our fans with great Caps coverage and original programming all season long,” said Van Stone. “Fans can expect 106.7 The Fan to deliver comprehensive coverage through the partnership, and in addition to airing our games, we look forward to working with them to deliver outstanding Caps-related programming throughout the season.”

Capitals radio play-by-play announcer John Walton will return for his seventh season of calling the action, while former Capital Ken Sabourin enters his 15th season of providing analysis for all Capitals games.

Capitals game broadcasts will all include 15 minutes of pre-game coverage prior to puck drop and 30 minutes after the game concludes. The post-game show will include player interviews and a live broadcast of Capitals head coach Barry Trotz’s post-game press conference. The Capitals pre and post-game game show will be hosted by Ben Raby.

"We’re thrilled to bring Capitals hockey back to DC’s top-rated sports station,” said Chris Kinard, 106.7 The Fan’s program director. “Caps fans don’t want to miss a second of action, and now they’ll hear games and complementary programming throughout Washington via our full-market FM signal. To round out game broadcasts, 106.7 The Fan will also offer listeners weekly segments with players John Carlson and Jay Beagle, bi-weekly interviews with head coach Barry Trotz, and the weekly call-in show, “Crashing the Net.”

All Capitals games can also be heard on Caps Radio 24/7, the team’s 24-hour audio channel, featuring round-the-clock news updates, player interviews, and music selected by players, coaches, fans, and the team's game entertainment staff. “Caps Talk” airs on Caps Radio 24/7 Monday through Friday, a two-hour call-in show from 4-6 p.m. Hosted by Walton, the show will feature the latest news from the Washington Capitals, interviews with players and coaches, local and national media, as well as live phone calls from fans in a talk-show format. Caps Radio 24/7 is the online home of the Capitals Radio Network, airing all Capitals games as well as select Hershey Bears and South Carolina Stingrays broadcasts. The station can be accessed, free of charge, via the Caps Mobile App radio button as well as through TuneIn radio app and anywhere online at www.capsradio247.com.

The Capitals Radio Network includes 14 different stations in 2017-18, serving the Mid-Atlantic region from Pennsylvania to North Carolina.
