Spotify Giving 2 Months Free Premium Service

Spotify’s relentless quest to increase its subscriber base continues or is it panic?

The company is currently giving away a full two months of Premium access for free to new US customers, in one of its most generous giveaways to date.

According to MusicBusinessWorldwide, the timing of the promotion is obviously interesting: as we stand, Spotify is gearing up for its much talked-about ‘direct listing’ attempt on the New York Stock Exchange, which is expected to happen next month.

A handy boost to subscriber numbers ahead of this momentous moment isn’t likely to go down badly on Wall Street.

The new promotional deal, given a Valentine’s theme by Spotify, encourages would-be users to ‘cozy up with free Premium’.

Typically, Spotify’s seasonal promotional deals for new users have seen the company offer users three months of Premium access – but for a price, of $0.99.

Those who have previously participated in a promotional trial, or who have been Spotify subscribers, are ineligible for the new deal.

The offer comes in the same month that we learned Apple Music’s subscriber base had topped 36m worldwide.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the number of subscribers on Apple’s platform in the US is set to overtake Spotify’s equivalent this summer.

However, Spotify is streets ahead on a global basis, having confirmed that it surpassed 70m subs in January.
